The VOICE of the VALLEY

WMRW was started in 2003 when the FCC awarded Rootswork a permit to build a low-powered FM (LPFM) station at the old East Warren Schoolhouse.  Rootswork is a local grassroots non-profit organization devoted to promoting sustainable agriculture and community.  The schoolhouse is located at the East Warren Four Corners, the intersection of East Warren Road and the Roxbury Mountain Road.

The WMRW 2010 "Hear it if You Can" fundraiser kick off.
WMRW began it's stream to the World!

,,,and yes, it was true! Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Patti Smith
did grace our airwaves on the 10th of February, with Oliver Ray
(host of “Either/Or” 2pm to 4pm on Wednesdays)
who interviewed his former band mate during his show.

Listen to the podcast of the interview.......

Meanwhile tune in for more exciting
(and unrehearsed) programming terrestrially (95.1fm)
or on the world wide web (wmrw.org)
and help keep true community radio alive.

Many thanks to all of you who have generously donated money
to keep WMRW up and running through 2010!

And thanks to the generosity of the Ray Family, and the Ray Family Fund at the Greater Houston Community Fund, we received the $2000 we needed to initiate streaming of WMRW for one year!

Many thanks to the Ray Family Fund for making this a reality.

This week, WMRW kicks off its annual fundraising drive with a sound heard – potentially – round the world. For the last five years, avid listeners of the low power station have been frustrated by its spotty signal. As of this Wednesday, (2/10/2010 at 2:10PM) anyone with access to a computer can catch all of the varied voices of the Mad River Valley streaming over the internet.

In celebration, WMRW is featuring ten days of special events, interviews, and fun giveaways. A major highlight is the station’s new bumper sticker with a familiar red and white design (done with the blessing of the good folks at Mad River Glen) bearing the words: “WMRW – Hear It If You Can.”

The fundraising festivities culminate on Friday, February 19th with a free, live in-studio concert. The stellar line-up includes singer-songwriter Kris Gruen, just off a tour with Sean Lennon; Scott Forrest, whose work has been featured onPrairie Home Companion; central Vermont’s country treasures, Mark LeGrand and Sarah Munro; the dynamic father-son duo Greg and Aidan Ryan, aka They Might Be Gypsies; Corelli, a funk/jazz fusion combo featuring Nick Dettor, Callan Roberts, and Preston Murphy; and Dirtminers frontman and raconteur, Raph Worrick. The community is invited to stop by at 6:00 for a potluck dinner and stay to listen – or tune into 95.1 on your radio or online!

Staffed entirely by volunteers, WMRW operates on a shoestring budget of about $25 a day, a bargain in broadcasting. For the price of half a bag of groceries, you can sponsor a whole day of programming. And in consideration, WMRW will give you ten words spoken at least three times during the day of your choice.

The station’s crack team of marketing experts predicts everyone will want to celebrate his or her sweetheart’s (or dog, child or what-you-will’s) birthday, anniversary or other significant occasion in this public spirited manner. Call today to reserve your date! (Note to husband: are you listening?)

There are other fundraising enticements as well, but what really makes WMRW worthy of your financial support is that this free format station is a resource for our whole community, allowing all of us to connect together, and feel at home, no matter where we are in the world!

A licensee of Rootswork, WMRW is located on the second floor of the East Warren Schoolhouse at the corner of the Roxbury Mountain Gap and the East Warren Rd.
